HD development group recognized as the author of the newest chapter in Oldcastle’s history 📣

Oldcastle is located just outside of Windsor. In the mid 1800’s it was considered the last rest station on the Talbot Trail for stagecoaches heading from Windsor to Essex County for the early settlers. It was named after Oldcastle in County Meath, Ireland by Col. Thomas Talbot.

Oldcastle was a dispersed rural community in the former Township of Sandwich South. The rural farm families would play baseball behind the barn on the Weston family farm. Weston Park was created in 1960 when the Weston family donated and sold land to Sandwich South Township. At its peak, 35 baseball teams enjoyed time on the park’s baseball diamonds. The league disbanded in 2008 due to dwindling numbers. Weston Park was considered the glue that bonded Sandwich South Township and surrounding residents for over 30 years.

Oldcastle became a part of the town of Tecumseh in 1999. Oldcastle is also home to a growing number of industrial developments. The founding fathers of Oldcastle pledged that Oldcastle would remain 60% residential and 40% industrial. Industrial developments create jobs; however, their expansion began to threaten and divide the current residential communities. Residents began to fear their community would disappear. They wanted to build a strong sustainable, balanced Oldcastle, like any other town.

In 2018, The Ontario Municipal Board decided that rezoning agricultural land for industrial use planned on North Talbot Road east of Eight Concession did not fall in line with provincial policy of sustainable communities. Tecumseh chose to then expand the industrial developments closer to the 401.

In 2024, HD development group broke ground in their latest development, “Oldcastle Heights”. An incredible new community located off North Talbot Road between Weston Park and the Ciocario Club. Oldcastle Heights ensures the survival of Oldcastle as an “Historical” and “Original Settlement”. This subdivision is comprised of 220 new homes to be built on the land residents fought hard to protect. The new families who will live in this development will bring new life to the facilities and revitalize the sports and social activities at Weston Park and the surrounding area.

HD development group, is also proud to call Oldcastle HOME! Our head office is located at 5335 Outer Drive near the 401.
